Flu Germs & Fettered InspirationViews: 954

Having just recovered from the flu, I am highly enjoying the irony of having scads of time to write, yet being unable to do so. One is perfectly able to write away while sick, but exhaustion, mucus and coughing spasms seems to mop up any available energy and stun the gray cells into ‘stupification’ for long periods. Napping, I think it is called... horrible stuff. My husband came back from work to find me with one hand on the laptop, the other clutching a Kleenex while the rest of my person wallowed in oblivion. (Yes, the laptop received ample sterilization...)

The kids came down with it first (school, ballet, store, somewhere...) but, they recovered in just two days. Just in time for me to come down with it. Every mom knows that sick children means getting up several times a night to towel the floor, procure water, administer medicine or simply purvey a little comfort. Not a thing wrong with it. Such sleeplessness merely adds to one's tendency to catch said offending bug and tumble down the slippery slope of Influenza.

Lying on the couch, I bitterly wondered why the virus in question had been given such a catchy, palatable name. Fairly rolls off the tongue, doesn't it? If one could but forget its meaning, it plausibly could have been the name of some Spanish conquistador. (And somewhere, somehow, long-gone Incas killed off by disease are clearing their throats, giving me meaningful looks, saying 'ORLY?')

I did manage to get four pages done in a week, which is precious little in comparison to usual amounts, but it is better than nothing. Hopefully, the experience added a bit of morose flavor to the dramatic sequence I was working on; perhaps a mass-infection of an unknown virus should inflict itself upon my book folk...

No. Had enough of that for awhile.

Really wish Mommy-hood brought with it immunity to whatever germs kids bring home. Sadly it isn't so

lol... indeed. Bolsters the constitution, though, so for that I am grateful.
